Harbour Master History
Hi folks
I know this topic is a strange one but i am writing a 10k word essay on the Harbour Master certification and qualification past and present. I am struggling to find anywhere any information about the history of the Harbour Master role. I understand traditionally the Harbour Master was usually from sea and from master job but that is about it and only from working in a port.
Can anyone provide any more info on this or any suggestions as to where to look for a bit more info on this topic? Google is proving useless on this occasion.
Thanks in advance
A.Nic

I can't think of any internet sites that might help, but why not go to your nearest port/harbour and have a chat with the Harbour Master

Ashley, Keiths suggestion seems the best bet, but if you get stuck I will try a old boy from the "Indefatigable" He is a member of the "Indefatigable Old Boys Assoc" and is the current Harbour Master on the Isle of Man. Good Luck.

Re: Harbour Master History
Ashley
Just type "MCA harbour masters course" into Google and lots of information will come up such as
https://www.ukhma.org/hm-certificate/
Most harbour masters start off as pilots for the port and as such would most likely served at sea as ships captain.
