Hello Peter, many apologises for the late reply, only just spotted your comment.
Yes! Those are the dates of the trip I was referring too and yes I remember your Dad really well. I met your Dad many years later at one of those sailor gatherings in A pub in Eccles. Apparently he came ashore many years ago and became a miner.
Pete was about 8 or 9 years older than me. I hope he’s fit and well, if so please pass on my regards and best wishes.
My brother w s sort of Shanghaied.
He got this shelia up the duff, stupid lad, and she only lived around the corner.
Marriage lasted all of two years.
Hello David.
Thanks for your reply. My dad came ashore in 1964 and had me in 1965. For many years he worked on Salford Docks as a waterman before leaving to drive HGVs. He then had all sorts of jobs including working as a steel erector for The National Coal amongst others. Funny the things you remember after all those years. I actually have an undated photo of him getting his head shaved on one ship or another with five of his ship-mates. You might even be in it. I'll try and post it on here or send it to you.
Unfortunately my dad had an accident in Spain in 2012 and passed away shortly after that. He would have been 92 last Friday November 4th, but thanks for asking about him.
He was more or less the last of the lads I remember him talking about from his time at sea. Len Rowlands, Tommy Gee, Ray Camilleri, Jim Flynn are some of the names I remember but sadly are no longer here. He always spoke very fondly of his time at sea and was attending the Merchant Navy meetings in Eccles more or less up to his death. I think he missed it once he packed in.
Good to hear from you David. I'll try and upload that photograph.
Best Regards, Peter.
Hi Peter, really sorry and sad to hear of your Dads passing. Find it hard to come to terms with that, that sun tanned sharp featured fit AB with the shaved head was 92.
During that long voyage we made numerous trips to various ports in Japan generally spending about 10 days in port each time.
Pete was one of our group that went ashore together and I remember clearly and fondly the incredible experiences we had. Unfortunately not suitable to be listed here.
Would like to see a copy of the photo you have if you can manage to
Publish it.
All the best and my best wishes
David
