Not the First trip but on one of the Ships I was on During her Sailings between South Africa nd the UK to be exact Stirling Castle
27 August 1958 to 10th October 1958
It was a great Trip with lots of Memories of which I have told before so will skip that, however just thinking about the Timeframe of the trip I was on Board on that Years Merchant Navy Day the 3rd September, and I must sadly say that I cannot recall any mention of the special day at all from any of the Crew.
I myself still being fairly new to the Merchant Navy at that time actually never knew of the day ,so was oblivious of the Special meaning of it all.
It was only after some time that I got to know all about it ,and still to this day cannot understand why there was no mention or even some sort of Remembrance Service on Board
So sad to tell but its true.
But nowdays and for many many Years I have always upheld the Special Day and respected it dearly, with my Heart going out to all those who Served and gave such a great sacrifice for us .
May they all Rest in Peace
We will remember them
Lest we Forget
With Respect
Thank You
