Lives of the liners: Sad demise

I wrote earlier today of thehandsome French Flandre.
Her fate: In 1968, she wassold to Costa, becoming the Carla C (and used on charter to then newlyformed Princess Cruises & marketed but not formally renamed PrincessCarla). Later she was rechristened Carla Costa. In 1992, she was sold to the Greeks, to Epirotiki Lines, and became the PallasAthena. But in March 1994, just outside Piraeus, she burned andwas destroyed beyond repair. The scorched hull was towed to Turkey laterthat year and scrapped. The end of the Flandre.
And by the way, her sister, the Antilles, you will remember burned out in the Caribbean, off Mustique, in January 1971.
