Victoria, not sure how many horses went from Oz to the western front bit only one was brought home.
After it all the riders had to shoot their horse.
It must have been agonizing for them to do that.
But the gov told them they could not come back.

It has been said that some were let loose by the riders rather than shooting them.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Quarter horses, obviously a different meaning in some countries.
In USA the term relates to horse very fast over a quarter of a mile.

But sending men to fight, what the gov of the day does but will not do itself, is one thing.
But to use animals in such a manner I find abhorant.

Yes John, I agree; but historically man has used all kinds of animals to assist in the "cause"; from Hannibal up to todays attack dogs with titanium capped teeth.

Thankfully Victoria that is part of our past history.
The horses were not allowed home as the gov of the day said it would be too costly!!!
What cost the lives of the young men they sent to the front?

Were it not for govs of all persuasions there is the possibility there would be no wars.

Keith, was not aware of your hospital visit, do hope you recover quickly. managed a few verses for Remembrance Day and hope they give reason for some to remember those who gave their all in times of conflict.

Ian, a very good friend and MN associate is our considered MN bard.

Your own work will need not compete, it is not a competition but,
in tribute and commemoration as in works of art, that penned by you
now will survive us all and cannot thank you enough.

    Cheers K.

Please keep the pen flowing for them and for us.
