    Default Lithgow Smalls Arms Factory

Published on Jan 19, 2015 this documentary this was made as a short solo project in 2014. Not only is the factory itself an amazing piece of history,
but its influence on the town of Lithgow was also very interesting.
Multiple streets around the factory were named after weapons, and there had been some quite heavy anti-aircraft guns placed around Lithgow during WWII to protect the factory.

    Hi Marian.
Loved the video. I have been to the factory museum in Lithgow it's a great little town, more of a mining town or at least it was. The only unfortunate thing is that every time I down load and watch a video; afterwards my computer plays up and I have to get off and start again. Still it was worth it this time.
    Cheers Des

Go to Lithgow often as its only 30km from here in Blackheath, been to that Arms place a few times and very interesting too!
A short story when we moved here I went there to see if my Wife's Dad's Short Pistol was kept there mas he had surrendered it when they Immigrated in 1979,but found out that it was not there,it was in fact sent to the other Museum in Singleton NSW.

Yes Lithgow is a lovely little Town .

Here in Melbourne in the suburb of Foostcray there was until the late 60's the munition factory that made much of the cordite and gunpowder used in Lithgow. Factory long gone nad now the site of a housing estate.

Small arms not to be confused with short arm inspections.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Great town and people. Got good friends there. Is considered part of the Blue Mountains. The extensive coal deposits, including coking coal was the reason for setting up a town, power stations and steel industry. There is a street of little miner's houses at the entrance to nearby Vale of Clwyd so you can guess why it is so named. Our club for more than 25 years is the Lithgow Workers Club that you Marian have noted on this Site 1887 Lithgow Workmens Club Formed . A massive plate of roast lamb, finished off with a pavlova desert and washed down with some chardonnay and a few bucks on the Melbourne Cup and the sweep in the beginning of November then back up the Victoria Pass to Katoomba. Couldn't knock the grins off our faces with a stick!

On the internet there was an article stating that the U.K. is the 2nd largest arms exporter, so we must be doing something right eh!

Can't say we're 'armless then JA. As long as we keep a good stockpile with some sophistication and expertise not exported in a case of return fire.

    HTML Code:
Small arms not to be confused with short arm inspections.
e.g. As a result from scratching around in the gardens by the incumbent residents.

Correct there John, USA, UK, China Russia and France are the five largest manufacturers of munitions. They cannot horde them so they sell them and what do you know, another war breaks out!!
