    Default beating the drum

I'm afraid that this thread may seem a bit bizzare, but here goes.

Whilst living in married quarters in Ellesmere, something else has puzzled me for years, and again I've never heard it since the 50s.

Band assembled on the parade ground.

    Drums only.

Solo drummer taps out---rat tat tat tat----tat tat,

All drums, very loudly------BANG BANG BANG BANG,

    Solo drum--as before

    All drums as before.

(bit of a mixture here) ----rat tat--BANG BANG BANG BANG.

    repeated.

Finale,----rat tat tat tat,--joined by all drums---Starts off quiet, and gets louder and and faster till it reaches a crashing crescendo, then abates to silence.

Long pause, followed by----rat tat tat tat

All drums, BANG BANG BANG BANG

I appreciate that this may seem wierd, but it happened on many occasions.

Does any-one know if it had a title, or the significance of it.

    Again, appreciate any info.

    Regards

    Colin

Could well be , air in the water lines can make a sound like that.

I remember them from my visit to Edinburgh.
