Hello All
My brother Arthur Bland (North Shields) was Engineer with Ben Line from 1956 to 1968 ,sailed on various
vessels ,from junior eng , to chief engineer,
He is very ill with Althsimers & is in care , but still remembers how to swing the lamp,
Anyone remember him ,

Hello Alan
I am sorry to hear about your dear Brother, and i can only say that i fel for you mate,as i know all about that dreaded Althsimers ,went through that with my dear Mother In Law,and lost her eventually,a very sad thing!
I sincerly hope with the Grace of the dear Lord,he will not get to the point of too much suffering! Take care and stay strong!
Its good to hear though that he is still able to as you say Swing the Lamp haha! Good on him!
With best wishes for the future

Hello Allan, I have just for the first time looked at the Ben Line pages. I'm sure I know your brother Arthur. he was second Engineer on the Bencruachan when I was a Junior. He did not have any family but was always hoping. I sailed with Ben line in the early 60's. I'm sorry to hear of his illness, he was a really nice chap and a pleasure to work with.

Hi Alan

Sorry to hear Arthur is unwell. I sailed with him on his firest voyage as Chief. I was his 2nd Eng on the Bencleuch from about October 1967 to Feb 1968. He was well liked by all the Engineers and always available for help and advice. He was most supportive of myself and helped me greatly in my comparetively new role as 2nd.

We only did one voyage together as he developed a stomach problem towards the end of the trip and I think he may have decided it was time to give up the sea.
