Anyone remember a Purser by the name of Albert Nelmes I sailed with him on the ESSO Lancashire 1969 and remember him as rotund and cheerful larger than life character who met me at the top of the Gangway as I joined, he warmly shook my hand and introduced himself as follows:

Good Evening Sire, My name is Albert Nelmes the Purser and a Gentleman’s Gentleman. The food is SH**E but it is delightfully served”
Life would have been very dull without men like Albert.

You've started it now,Steve!
Remember one purser,Dave...can't remember surname now.Always immaculately dressed, esp when going ashore.But..if you as much criticised his tie, suit, jacket etc..e.g."Where did you buy that tie,Dave?",he'd immediately turn about(no,not an effeminate man),and go to his cabin. He'd sulk for half an hour, then completely change. This could happen time and time again before he eventually got ashore. It only took the slightest criticism to make him change clothes again.Consequently he took to going ashore in the dark when no-one was about to see him go down the gangway.Needless to say there were those who wound him up deliberately....it was best to say nothing to him! Poor Chap!

Ah!These We have Loved.......

Remember the second steward on the Windsor, he was as popular as a dead rat at a picnic. Loved to goashore but neverw wanted to be seen. He was found one trip wearing a wig and false mo in a small bar away from the crowds. Word got around and the trip home was extremely tough for all catering crew. He applied for a transfer at the end of the voyage but was refused, we had him for four more trips but we think he never went ashore again.
