I wonder where the many Goanese are that I sailed and worked with on the Corfu and Canberra, I made good friends with a few of them, where are you fellows now??

Good question Bob. They may of course have purchased real estate in Goa or maybe Bolton.

I worked on P&O ships in the 50's Ranchi,Maloja Strathnaver,Himalaya,Carthage and Arcadia. I always got on well with the Goanese. There were some real gems among them who would do anything for a couple of bottles of Guinness. The only ones who didn't fit the profile were those who had no contact with the bloods, like pantrymen
The cooks were ok though because they earned from us for providing curries to die for. They were made from the recipes that they made for their own cosumption, without the chefs blessing. There was a thread recently mentioning the Goan curries and asking for the recipes, any Goan cooks about ? As Neil said they are all probably sitting back in Goa and taking advantage of the tourist boom in that country.

like pete i too was on the P&O`s Arcadia back in the 50`s, the Goanese had their own galley and their own eating area, if you friendly with them they didn`t mind you eating there food in their dinning room, which i frequently did, and what good curries they were.
there were a number of them whoes families had been with P&O. since the 1800`s when P&O first started, they worked a rotation of 18 months or2 years on most of the fleet, if you treated them fairly they looked after you.
I have a photo of all the first class wingers on the Arcadia, all white except one Goanese ( yes it is a black and white photo, before anyone says it )

But he was a bit surprized when i told him I knew where goa is and thta i had sailed with some all those years ago.He told me the majority of bloods had no idea where Goa is.
