Three Years Today our "Lou" was taken away

On this day in 2015


Itwas the 29^th May 2108 and on this day three Years ago Iwas shocked and so sad to hear of the passing of such a likeable person one Charles Louis Barron (Fondly known just as Louis to us here)


Hewas a Man small in stature,but huge in Heart,and had such stamina for his age. As the old Movie Title of John Wayne was “True Grit”This was the Man Lou.


I recall on his most Welcome visit here to us,for those lovely and Memorable few days ,we had such good times and he told me many stories about his time both at Sea and in the Camps,and although Ihad read these on site,it was such a different feeling to me to hearit straight from the person himself!


WhenI went to meet him at the Airport,i recall just how friendly a Man he was,with out stretched Hand to shake mine,with a warmth that anyonewould have recognised as a hand of true friendship,and likewise I retaliated ,and we made a special bond there and then.


Yes Lou was one special person,with all he had been through in his lifetime,he could always still have a cheery smile on his face,no matter what,this was a true sign of a person with very high Morals,and he as he was never held a grudge about the past,such a person was he.


So Today as other Years I always will have a special place in my Heart,as will my dear Wife Irene for dear Lou,he became part of our little Family so fast,and he accepted us as his own.


So Lou for you my dear Friend ,as I have in the past said,who knows what happens in the here after and if there is one,i am sure that you andI will meet again in a far better place ,but will still always have that special Bond!


Rest easy now my Friend
You will never be forgotten.

I would like to add to this that that both Richard ,his dear wife Margaret and Roger and his dear Wife Pauline were here for a small gathering to meet Lou.
It was a very pleasant day we all had.and Lou spoke highly of them all,when he returned home and we spoke on the Phone.
My thanks again to all that came and a special thanks to Roger who so kindly offered to take Lou to the Airport ,that was a gesture not forgotten.

My memory of Lou ( we never met ), was of the photo of him talking to a young girl, probably a mum today , in Liverpool, and then the taxi taking him back to his berth free of charge. one big seaman, kt

Yes Vernon what a man Lou was I had a good 10 days out with him on his visit here he certainly got a liking for the John Smiths bitter.I certainly felt proud when he used to refer to me as my good mate Jim Brady.

I remember that well Jim, you Scousers did him fine, i remember the photo of him alongside the memorial. Would be lovely to get back to those halcyon days where we all got on together, just me being melancholic, kt

I had hoped to have met up with him and the others at the reunion
in Liverpool.

I cannot remember what happened, think I was rushed into hospital.

I had promised him an MN Silver badge, I think he had said his was
lost over the years.

I had the lapel badge delivered to his hotel and remembered he was
really chuffed.

Yes he was pleased with the badge that you sent him Keith.I bought him a Battle Of The Atlantic cap I think that he was quite proud to wear it as he had it on every day.We went and visited his old house over in Rock Ferry one day and had a couple of pints on the corner where his mother used to be a barmaid,yes some good days in good company.

Not wanting to upstage anything said here ,but I too presented Lou with a Silver Beer Mug Engraved with his name and Ship etc,he was so thrilled with it.
His Daughter had told me afterwards that the Mug still sits on the Mantle in her House!
Cheers!! and that's for you Lou! Pity the Lettering is so feint just trying it in Greyscale but ??

Yes Vernon I think he did have a place where he kept his memento's as I also got him a nice BOA china mug I forget what the writing was on it now,he said that was going to go in some special place.
