Default Just my Tribute to Lou!

Never been much of a Poet for sure but have tried !!

The Lad from Hull who craved going to Sea
No older the Fourteen that's all he be.

To follow his dream, his age he had changed
So that his life could somehow be rearranged

So off he sailed on a Ship called Lech
Where he learnt on there to do his best.

Many Years he sailed to ports of intrigue
And very seldom did he get any leave

But just to be on the Ships was his true Passion
He loved that life and the food that they rationed

Until one Day a ship he was on was hit
Which more than shook him and all up a bit

He was lucky to survive with a lot of the others
They tried to hide under the covers

But the Ship was sinking fast and all needed to get out
So over the side they went into the arms of the enemy Boat

For Years these Lads were kept in POW Camps
There was no distinction of race or Ranks

They all were equal and that they knew
For to be there together and so few

Was a Nightmare of untold proportions

When treated with such Extortions (noun: unjust exaction (as by the misuse of authority)

Finally one day it all ended
And most got to be mended

They all went home to their loving Families
To tell of their horrific tragedies

    Some stayed on at home
But this Lad went back to roam

    The Seas he always loved
And where he was happy and not shoved.

This of course refers to Lou Barron the Lad from Hull
RIP my dear friend always in my mind!

Lou, a kindly gentle man whom you, Vernon and Irene gave much pleasure to in his visit to your home. Thank you both for giving Margaret and me the opportunity to share time with him at that time.

I first met Lou when our Cruise ship called in at Dunedin for the day. We ( the Missus and I ) met up with him and he gave entertained us for the day. It turned out that not only did I know Lou through this Web site but that my wife knew Lou's wife and daughters through the Leisure Marching teams these Ladies all belonged to. I was able to return the hospitality when Lou visited Auckland just days before he passed away, he was in Auckland visiting one of his daughters. A great man and a pleasure to know. Regards Peter in NZ.

these posts says it all about the impression that lou gave to us all having talking to him at the meet up in that den of iniquity the pen and wig its a pity we lived a world apart we would have been good mates there is not many people that you only meet once and say he was a nice fella but he truly was and as late the site has had a bit of bad weather some of the old crowed will think about coming back on deck we have left port bad weather and smooth sailing now? just my view. jp
