Lou, one of the first things thta caught my eye some years ago on my first cruise to NZ was the railway station and the gardens surrounding it. Dunedin may not be very large but it is a clean city with great chacter and some of the churches are amongst the best you will find outside of Europe.
Arriving there is a bit of a revalation as docking in Port Chalmers does not give the impression of such a great place.

Something Lou forgot to mention was the students in the town -- they have a fearsome reputation for trashing their rented accommodation to such an extent that the place looks like London after the Blitz by the end of the University year !! But I must agree, the girls look pretty good. Regards Peter in NZ.

Whilst I was touring South Island a few years ago, I stopped to fill up the car, and two Germans were also topping up. During the conversation I had with them, they remarked that NZ was the cleanest country they had ever visited, I had to agree. But coming from the Germans was a high accolade, KTKT

Yes Peter we have just over 20,000 Students in Dunedin and most unfortunatly there is a few who are delinquents most who do not come from Dunedin who cannot hold their booze .
Years ago we never had this problem .
When i was a head storeman in a store i use to to employ students in a busy season and you could not find a better bunch of guys .
These bad students lack self discipline and have no respect for other people .

Well Brian the Afghan people next are very nice people and keep to themselves i often speak to the mother and give plants to put in the garden .

On a tour of a Kiwi farm in Tauranga the owner said he employs a number of students during the picking season and all are goos workers.
But students world wide can at times be a problem, though from experience of 14 years in the uni system I found that it is a small minority who make the problems for the rest.
Recent protests in Melbourne shows students, most of whom come from Rent-A-Mob, they will be at any protest for any reason.

Some students take things a little too far!
A Russian student at Newcastle University has just been convicted of having bomb making chemicals in his room. The University and an area of the centre of Newcastle had to be evacuated twice earlier this year when the equipment was found in his room at the language school

I have come across a couple of students here in their late thirties , they sign up on a two year course , never complete it then sign up on another one after failing the last . It gets them into a system where they avoid job-seekers . I dont know exactly how they work it but they are never short of cash , and don't get the DWP hassle
