(It was just a case of circumstances that saw me do all the cooking, and she got to like the idea. But she is great with a lawn mower).
Funny that John as Irene to is great with the Lawnmower!
And I do all the Cooking here as well!
Must be the Catering side of us ! LOL!

It is still a requirement to carry a certified ships cook, irrespective of flag, but dependent upon crew size
You would be amazed to find that a number of respectful ship owners/managers fail to realise that as it is usually not put onto the minimum manning certificate.
Totally agree with you regarding crew costs of U.K. crews. WE were always been told by the Canadian bosses in CPR that we were too expensive and that they would be better off investing their money in a building society until on one visit by the bosses, flying 1st class of course, we had managed to get hold of the actual charter rate for the particular voyage and had managed to work out accurately to within a few hundred dollars, their per day profit. They always used the age old accounting trick of projecting an annual profit and if they did not hit that target then they could declare a loss on the difference between annual and projected costs. The end of CP came after they had started Carnival and the shipyard that was building there 1st two new cruise liners insisted on a large down payment on the cost of these two new ships so the fleet of 54 ships was rapidly sold off to another subsidiary they set up in Bermuda, using the office next door to C.P. Bermuda along with selling the chemical division that was making around 32 million per year profit with the ships and contracts for around 100 million to the Greeks who eventually turned that company into the 2nd largest chemical transportation company going.

How do some of the very large container ships of overseas companies manage when they have a minimal crew and eat frozen microwves meals?
