Not at all Deep Sea you are not hijacking my post but it does get up my nose a fair bit about the lack of understanding by the media and the public about the wartime efforts by the MN and with you help we can hope that the MN would get some reconision
Regarding my post #7. Common sense has finally prevailed and Arthur Beeney was accepted as official war dead today and is to be added to the Addenda section to Tower Hill.

Also had some encouraging news on thirty-one of the sixty seven other names I submitted. Will update soon as I can go through the reply I had from the CWGC.
The only way to bring the attention of, at least some of, the public to the wartime sacrifices of merchant seamen is to write about them and to have your work published. I've done my share and have also instigated the flying of the Red Ensign in the Scottish War Memorial in Edinburgh Castle.
As long as I am able I will keep pressing for recognition of the Merchant Navy for their service in the wars
Finally got around to going through details sent back to me from the CWGC. Twenty-nine of the names submitted, it was found the Commission had a certain amount of information on file for these men, but why they have not looked into the cases before now is unknown. Thirty-eight names, I have been requested to send documentary evidence to back up each case. I am in the process of scanning all the relevant pages from the books purchased from the generous donation from one on this site. There are also other records received from the National Archives of Norway on 24 of the individuals in question, in the form of deceased record cards recording their deaths and the names of the ships they were lost from, which I have attached an example.Quote:

Keep up the good fight Lads I'm a little younger born in 1942 but if wasn't for the seamen who fought the battle of the Atlantic without weapons but a lot of courage I wouldn't be here today. Every chance I get I tell the people here in the Colonies how important the Battle of the Atlantic was.
I am of the opinion that most of the ignorance is due to the generation of today. In most places, newspapers etc there are a generation who have little or no understanding of WW2 it was something a long time ago so it has no meaning to them, They will only consider up to date articles or if the gov is involved in ceromonies or the like they will then report it.
