Lautoka hasn't changed all that much Cappy. Here is a picture taken in 1959/60 of Margaret (in blue) with my sister Yvonne whose neighbour's home is behind them. On Vernons map the CSR compound where they are is the open area in the bottom right hand corner.

"Leratty", I remember the name and will give Yvonne a call this evening and also check around as we still have family there. The car was my brother in law, John Pettitt's pride and joy, a Wolseley late 1950s registered (Fiji) B1. I'll get back to you.
    Cheers, Richard

Richard, I was just talking to Yvonne, she's close to 87 and sharp as a tack. She knows the Watson family and there are some still living in Nadi area. They owned half of Nadi apparently and would no doubt have provided the land for the search light. Graham Watson was involved with the Denarau Resort.

Yvonne's elder son, Michael is retired now. He lived in Nadi, was managing director of his mother and father's business, South Sea Cruises based in Nadi which they sold some years ago and has just sold his Marine Import business and moved to Queensland. Like my two kids he was naturalised Australian (Australian parents) when he was born in Fiji so had no trouble on that score.

I will give Michael a call as he will know the family well and get back to you.

I have a lunch appointment in Sydney tomorrow and will go down there early and call in to Brian and Anne's hotel. If the ship arrives at 8.00am I should catch up with them. Richard

Hope you catch up Richard, don't forget to tell him about me and Roger for Wednesday! I have left a message at Reception of Hotel for him to call me on his arrival! Given my Phone Number as well!
I will be going as you know on Wednesday (well if all goes to plan and the Capt contacts me on Tuesday)
Roger will be joining me later once I know what the plans are!

The Ship is due to Dock early too Richard!

Hi Richard, I'll be talking to my nephew Michael over the next couple of days and get back to you. He spent the first sixty years his life there up to now and knows every one. Those western Islands have really been developed. I'm glad I was in Fiji when all this was yet to be.
