Captain Von Ruckstell was sentenced to 10 years reduced to Seven years in 1946...he died within the year of his trial. He was the only German Naval Officer convicted of war crimes.......although he had also be guilty i the first world war.

There were 4 Survivors from the Lylepark who managed to get rescued
Capt Low,1st Mate Read (Sunk later on the Avila Star) Geoffrey Coysh 3rd Mate and Phillip Thomsett DEMS Gunner. Many were picked up by the Michel. I have met 6/7 members of the German Crew and Bill Trappit, the last surviving Lylepark Crew member who has now unfortunately passed away.

Not quite true Chris.
Heinz-Wilhelm Eck was convicted of war crimes for ordering his crew (U-852) to shoot at survivors of the Greek merchant, PELEUS on 13th March 1944 but unlike Captain Von Ruckstell, who died in prison, Eck and two of his officers were executed by firing squad on 30th November 1945.
