In Lo Yang they must have been about 200 hundreds of us POWs all MN and Navy guys and we had a guy we called Tibby i never found out his real name he was a ex rubber plant manager from Malay and he could speak and understand the Japaneses language that was a big help for us but he also got a few hidings like us he was a wee tubby guy but he soon lost that tubby look .
it was one day that i remember that he got a hiding it all started when one of our guys was caught by the Japs stealing some soap from the Japs shower area and he was given a very server punishment in front of us all .
Then Tibby stepped forward to protest to the Senior Jap Officer and a he also got a beating .
