this is a poem that my grand daughter wrote for a project for her school in teddington london
    My grandad is a hero
My grandad is a hero because.
young at 15 he went to war.
    Germans sunk his ship.
    rough seas drown his friends.
A group of Germans saved him.
Nazis help though . War was not to kill.
Death of his friends scared him for life.
After the war he found a home in New Zealand
Dad he became to his children.
    Sadas it was he survived.
A great man he is today
Even though i hardly see him .
Round and round in my head i can hear his voice
That is why i think he is a Hero

A wonderful poem and expression of love from a ten-year old lass for her Grandad of whom she is so justly proud (I think Grandad is just as proud of her and why not?). Thanks for sharing that with us Lou.

    Default poem about Granddad

Mate that's a great comment from a young lass. Why is it when they're are older their minds are 'mucked' up by adults?

I find that kids are great until they go to University, then they have that "uni" attitude for a few years where they know everything, adults know nothing and then its another 15 - 20 years before they get back what you had hoped they would be--------------- normal!

I have been watching some of the people involved in the protests around the globe about profits etc. The greater majority of them I would suggest are uni students, many here in Oz are certainly members of 'renta mob'. The most amazing thing about all of this is that at the end of the day many of them will end up in the finance system, lawyers, and other avenues of wealth generation. We all begin as inocent souls but are eventualy corupted by the system.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.

    Smile Lovely poem

A beautiful poem, and so eloquent for a 10-year-old. She's obviously very proud of you, and you of her!

And I agree with Ivan and John. I suppose there is an age where idealism sets in. They key is, can they put their ideals into practice for the greater good? Certainly in Canada the majority of the protesters seem to be uni students. Watched them on the news the other night and the sad thing is, they aren't able to articulate exactly what they're protesting against or come up with a viable solution; looks more like a follow-the-leader scenario to me.

I always encouraged the Grandchildren to write poems and stories from a very early age as soon as they could write.
I told them that adults cannot write childrens stories or poems only children can do that,
I liked a poem my grandaughter wrote when she was 8, it goes like this....
    .
    Swing Swing Swing,
There is a pig on my swing,
What am I going to do now,
Do I swing the swing or
    do I say"GET OFF".
    .
it is a simple one but it has a childlike innocence about it as all Childrens poems have.
Wish they could stay like that for ever.
