Hey Sean, you didn't happen to join the Lampas at Ras Al Khaimah in June 1977, did you? If so, that rabbit-in-the-headlights first trip junior Sparks that joined at the same time was me. The Old Man was Charlie Skelton, Senior R/O was Dudley Fry. I had no idea what I was doing, but jeez we learned fast :-)

I was also on the Acavus about 8 months later, doing my first trip as solo R/O. Bit of an eye-opener after the L-boats.

    Cheers

Can I ask you your rank when you were at sea? Of those C.P. ships you sailed on I served on the Port Hawkesbury, R.A. Emerson and E.W. Beatty as 3rd mate up to Chief Officer. I also emailed in the late 60's early 70's with a john Currie, no relation I assume.

I sailed with Shell from 1974 to 1981, then I joined ICSN (Hong Kong) until I left the sea in 1985.
With Shell : Donax, Amoria, Limnea, Acavus, Amastra, Mena, Lampas, Ervilia, Methane Progress, Aulica: as Nav/Deck cadet/ 3rd Mate
With ICSN Liwo Venture, Lustre Venture, Cape Thistle: as 2nd Mate for first five months then Mate for the next three and a half years.
    Great times with ICSN.

Ian, your name rings a bell but I cant place you, during those dates I also did Acavus, Aulica, and Limnea (x2) I was part of the team which took Limnea out of layup in Brunei Bay then into Sembawang drydock, got three months leave after that then back on her again, during spell where they put about a dozen extra engineers on board and changed all the cargo valves, some alongside but rest at sea.

Sorry everyone, just getting to understand how this all works:
Bernard, I joined the Lampas July 24th '77 in Ras K. Yes, Skelton was the OM and Fry was the RO. I think I sailed with you on the Acavus a little later when you were the RO.
John, I joined CP as Second Mate on the Kipp, next trip the Hawkesbury - I joined off Aruba while she was in floating storage. John Currie is no relation.
