    Hi guys im new to the forum. Could any one tell me what the r561641 number and letter stand for. My grandfathers name is james wilson.

    The R Number just means Registration followed by the actual Number which was a Number given to all Seaman.
    It is a Recorded Record of his.

    Below is a Link to his Seamans Pouch which holds basic Information of when he first joined.

    There should also be a CRS10 for him which will hold all his Service Information

    The reason i ask im looking to get a tatoo in remmeberence of him and am looking for a number that signifies his navy years

    That Signifies his Merchant Navy Number Jeremy his BSIC is different and will possibly be seen on his CRS10

    I got my Dad's and Sisters Discharge Book No's on a tattoo to remember them.
