RMS Empress of Scotland, 1946 Dec
I was at the vindi until late Nov 46 then was a deck boy on th Scotland it was christmas EVE and the troops did’nt want to go, they lowered the embarkation nets and jumped ashore the cops and mp’s were all over the place Trying to get them back on board and ready to sail. We eventually left on the evening of Christmas Day, two days late.on Boxing Day we were in the Bay of biscay and rolling around a bit and I was as sick as a dog whilst cleaning the crew heads.the captain came round on inspection and patted me on the head and said don,t worry son it will all be over soon we will be out of the bay in a couple of hours. I haven’t had a day of seasickness since.when I was on the Vindi I was ships bosun for four weeks instead of the usual two weeks as I had two weeks addded to my course for overstaying my mid course leave by two days. However I did finish the course Top of the class with a score of 298 out of a possible 300
