Any Information on my Father Please Thank You
Hi there,
I was born in Plymouth in 1966. My mother was Lynda Lakey and my father was Billy (?), from Libya (?). He was apparently over here on an electrical secondment with the Merchant Navy, my Uncle thinks. When I was approximately 18 months -2 years old he had to 'go home or face the consequences'. I have never seen or heard from him since and unfortunately my mother died in 1975, so she was not able to tell me more about him and he was not entered on my birth certificate. I have been trying to research and find ways to look for him all my adult life, however it has been without success as I do not have a name.
My name is not an English name, so I believe he may have had some influence with naming me. There is 1 photo of us together, which I have attached, I think!
If there is anyone that may know anything, I would appreciate it is so much. My 11 year old so desperately wants to know more about his grandad too!
Thank you for reading this and look forward to any comments.

Hello Shelda
Thanks for joining and posting your query.
I have come up with what is I think must be the Marriage between your Mother and Father.
Marriages Sep 1965
|
LAKEY |
LINDA D. |
MALONEY |
Plymouth |
7a |
1413 |
harrymilo |
So your Father was Maloney by the looks of this!
This would be on the transcription if you applied for the certificate
I have looked at the NA for any record of MN Seamans Service but came up with one Maloney B from Plymouth Born 1937 which seems about the correct date?
Reference: |
BT 372/1690/129 |
Description: |
R599343 MALONEY B C 14/05/1937 PLYMOUTH |
Date: |
1913 - 1972 |
Held by: |
The National Archives, Kew |
Former reference in its original department: |
R599343 |
Legal status: |
Public Record(s) |
Above record is for his Seamans Pouch (Available for Download at a cost ) which holds the bare info.
You need his CRS10 for a full Record that will have Ships ,dates,Pic of him on joining etc! The CRS10 you will have to get in person from the Archives. I will look that up later if this is him.
Cheers
Hope this helps

#4, Hi Doc, The marriage cert on FMP States:
Marriage year 1965, Marriage quarter 3
MarriageFinder™ LINDA D LAKEY married David J Maloney
District Plymouth
District number -
County Devon
Country England
Volume 7A
Volume as transcribed 7A
Page number 1413
Record set England & Wales Marriages 1837-2005
So I will try searching for David first but will keep Billy in mind. Also different spelling for Lynda too!
Hello Shelha welcome to the site
Have a feeling we are on the wrong track here Doc, from FMP again:
First name(s) DAVID J
Last name MALONEY
Birth year 1945
Birth quarter 1
Registration month -
Mother's last name Davis
District Plympton*
I seriously doubt we will find anything for Billy from Libya without a surname, hoping some of the members here can perhaps suggest a ship name or recognize Shelha's details?? Could her father have been on a training course here?

Hi Doc Vernon,
Wow, thank you for this, but I don't think they married and my mum's maiden name was Lynda Margaret Kathleen LAKEY.
She was 17 when I was born.
If you can find anything else, based on the above it would be fantastic ....
Kind regards
Shelha

Okay Shelha, found your mum's marriage in 1971 to TW Is there anyone who can remember no matter how vague your birth father's surname or how it sounded?

Shelha, can anyone in your family say if your birth father left the UK in a MN ship or flew home?
Does any member here know where a MN seaman arriving on a electrical placement would register on arrival in Plymouth?
