Re;Any Information on my Father Please Thank You
Sorry I have not been in touch for a couple of years.
I hope everyone is keeping safe and well in this challenging time. I have done an Ancestry DNA test and there are some names that maybe the family name of my natural father from Libya/Tunisia - the names are Muntasser or Mehdimm. I am not sure how to navigate this forum very well, so unable to access my original posts. My father who it is believed he was Libyan and living in Plymouth during period of approx 1963-1968, during which time he met my mum. I was born in 1966 and my father had to 'go back or face the consequences'. There is a photo of us together, I am about 18 months? It is believed that he was over on an electrical secondment with the Navy. My mum maiden name was Lynda M K Lakey and died in 1975. Father not on my b/certificate.
Thank you and I appreciate it if you are able to assist.
Kind regards
Shelha

Re: Any Information on my Father Please Thank You
Have reread all now and finding out to much more may be difficult,
if at all possible. Can you think of any other info no matter how small?
The photo shows another young girl, any relation?
Are you aware of any communication between your parents, letters etc or
did he just go - end of?
Any other family members?
The uncle?
etc, etc.
Regards, Keith.

Re:Any Information on my Father Please Thank You
Hi Keith,
Thanks for your message. We have tried everyone, my uncle, my great aunt who is almost 90. Family is the best way for family info, which I learnt some time ago.
Also, we have no idea who the other girl is in the photo. Unfortunately, because my mum died in 1975 (I was 9), having recently married a soldier, who was being posted to Tidworth, near Andover, Hampshire. There was possibly correspondence, but I was not aware of any or not given anything. It probably all got lost or thrown
I am not sure where he would have lived either. Perhaps, he lived with us in Cattedown. The only thing my uncle (mum's brother) told me was that he and his wife were passing through on way from Cornwall back home and my dad cooked a meal, which was very spicy. My uncle says 'you definitely get your love of spicy food from him!' He did not know of any other name than Billy.
This is really random, but my son went for eye test and the optician said that he is colour blind and he looked at me and asked if my dad was colour blind, because this comes from maternal father?? That is our only link and it is soo sad that we cannot do anything to trace him.
Appreciate that this is not easy and understand that it is a big ASK. I have emailed the Libyan branch of the Red Cross, but not heard anything from them. My DNA results came back with those family names as in my message the other day, Muntasser or Mehdimm
Kind regards
Shelha

re: Any Information on my Father Please Thank You
Sorry, busy day today.
One thing I do have now is a lot of time and knowing from my
own family research, now ongoing for 20 odd years, I do know
how difficult all is and I had names to both work with
and from.
Some results took years and often when close to giving up a huge
amount would come all at once. I tend to tell all not to give up and
though your own situation has more difficulties than some hope,
you will find what you seek.
I will private mail you with my contact details as all I would need to
ask may not bring the results searched for and I think you have
provided plenty here already.
I would like to do all possible to help, It kind of repays much help
that I have received over the years.
Fingers crossed.
Keith.

re: Any Information on my Father Please Thank You
Touch wood, Doc may be able to change the thread header to something like -
Shelha daughter of Lynda Lakey seeks dad.
Generally, with little to go on, hope that he may be look for both.
The chances if likely would be greater than - Re: Information about
my father.
Touch wood more comes along.
Keith.

RE: Electrical secondment with the Navy.
It can be supposed that your father was not here illegally,
though the reason for leaving may be he overstayed his welcome.
I gather it is most likely he was seconded to the Royal Navy rather
than the MN but, though something should be recorded, it is finding
out where.
K.
