    Default Lewis Drake

Hello I am trying to find information on my uncle Lewis Drake born 1925 died 1951 in New South Wales after serving on ss Avisvale. I have his death records but am trying to find out where and when he served/sailed. The family believe he was in the Merchant Navy before and after the war, serving in the Royal Navy when he was of age.

Marian I knew of 5 Murdo Macleods. One was the master on the Finish Wasa ,one was mate with me on a seaforth offshore ship, and three more were skippers on stand by boats who I never met but often spoke to on the VHF. They were all from Stornaway. The three on the standby boats were 3 brothers and their father insisted they were all called Murdo after him I suppose. Maybe the two you have may be brothers also all though the chances are slim. The name Drake I wonder if it goes back to Sir Francis, I sailed with an AB called Nelson never got to ask him as he jumped ship in Cairns FNQ, bumped into him when I got home as he was back in uk before us, never even then Got round to asking him. Allison just day dreaming traced my own name or my son has back to the 17th. Century. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. Various mysterys were no longer mysteries any more. I wish you well on your search there are a few sleuths on here so your chances are good. Rgds JS

I have checked the Archives Alison, and can find no records for him?
Strange that ,as he was not still at Sea after 1972 when records ceased to be kept!
The only other way is to check the Crew List for that Ship which would be a start!?
I will see if there is a Crew list that you could get??
    Cheers

Cannot see how he was on the Avisvale as it was only changed to that name in 57 ???
    1957 AVISVALE 7165 csd cargo 1957/ex Empire Tristram ????
Only possible one would have been
    1946 HOLLYPARK
    which later became the Avisvale???
