Default Hi from an old Marconi Sparks

Just signed up so here is a super-brief summary of my seafaring background.
I trained to become a Radio Officer at Southampton College of Technology between '74 and '77. Managed to gain employment with Marconi Marine and sailed on a variety of vessels up until 1984 when I went freelance for just one voyage. That was the end of my seafaring career - but I often reflect upon those days with a great deal of fondness. When I can find my old discharge book to help my failing memory I'll share some details of the ships on which I served.

    Hi Tony,

I am probably a bit before your time, having been deep sea with Port Line as Apprentice and Navigating Officer (sailing with Marconi R/Os) 1958/68, prior to joining Dover short-sea ferries.
However, would welcome the opportunity to pick your brains regarding a few technical aspects of your duties for inclusion in some memoirs I am currently writing.
Be obliged if you could contact me on private email captjaswmartin@orange.fr

    Hi Tony
I also joined Marconi marine in 77 after training at Fleetwood, Lancs (though born & bred in West Sussex).
I sailed with Sugar line, Bank line, Ben line and Fyffes before sailing foreign flag with United arab shipping co.
    Came ashore in 83.
In the early 90’s I took the family to visit the science museum is London. There was a mock up of a ships radio room (in a museum for crying out loud) it was like coming home. Conqueror transmitter, Apollo receiver, sentinel auto alarm etc etc.
    Welcome to the group.
