    Default WW2 Convoy Info

I was born and bred in Liverpool, many of my family members were in the Merchant Navy, and many old friends too. I'd love to hear from anyone who sailed with TJ Harrison, Chapman and Willan, Blue Funnel, any of the Liverpool Companies around 1968 and who drank in the Why Not Pub and the Crocodle in Harrington Street Liverpool. Also, if there are any WW2 veterans who sailed with the Norwegian Merchant Navy in the Atlantic convoys, or survived the raid on ships at Bari Italy in December 1943, maybe your Dad or grandad. I'd love to hear from them.

Send out your big warships to watch your big waters
That no one may stop us from bringing you food.
For the bread that you eat and the bisquits you nibble
The sweets that you suck and the joints that you carve
They are all brought to you daily by all of us Big Steamers
And if anyone hinders our coming you'll starve.

From "Big Steamers", Rudyard Kipling, not written for WW II, but fitting nonetheless.

Crocodile pub is alive and serving in Harrington St. (Next door to The Pen&W).most of us have sailed with the companies you mentioned Caroline, and I'm sure some old salt may recall members of your family.

    Hello Catherine
I am in regular contact with a former Radio Officer who sailed with the Norwegians. My Dad ( Capt W.J.Hartley ) rescued him from the burning Norwegian tanker, "South America" April 6th 1944.
Atlantic Convoy SC 156 Halifax to Clyde (29 March - 13 April 44)
    regards
    Brenda
