Hi Bill, I did 21 trips on the Beaver Boats, like yourself enjoyed my time on them, did 7 trips on the Beaverglen, Oct'56 to Aug'57, then did 14 trips on the Beaverdell, Sept'57 to Apr'59, the last 9 trips as 2nd Steward, what part of '59 were you there, plenty of good memories. Fred.

    Hi Bill.
Welcome to the site; plenty of old salts here you might catch up with a few old mates.
I always admired the Beaver boats as they steamed past the old tubs I always seemed to get on out of Swansea. Did a few trips up the Manchester canal minus funnel and saw quite a few close up lovely looking ships.

Hi Bill I sailed on the beaverdell , only one trip as a J O S. must have been one of first ships up the St.lawrance after it thawed in early April 1960. Can't say as I remember much about it, we went to Quebec then on to Montreal, I think we may have visited another port after that, not sure. I do know it was cold, I joined the merch. To visit the tropics, not to have me bits froze off. So it. Was back to London then back to the pool and get a trip to New Zealand on the ceramic, to get warmed up again. Only thing of note was we passed over the place where the Titanic sunk on the 15 april the 48 anniversary. Not much help in your quest, but the memory sort of goes at our age. John w

    Bill
Here is a photo of the Beaverdell.

I used to have a painting of her done by a James Yeandal-Hignal, who I sailed with on the Empress of Canada. He was 3rd mate on her in 71/72. His life ambition was to be a doctor but by the time he had almost reached the end of his training the booze had got to him so he would come back to sea to dry out before starting again. Smashing fellow whose ambition and possibly his whole life was ruined by booze.
I sailed on a number of the small white Beaver ships on that N. Atlantic run and if you thought it was rough on the Beaverdell, it was bloody rough on the 4500 grt. Beaverfir.
