The present Captain of the AMSTERDAM of Holland America, now on a world cruise , Jonathon Mercer, was a Cadet on the Good Hope Castle. and spent three days in a life boat and landed at Ascension.

I never heard of this. Would someone post the date of when this happened please. Thanks for posting the news articles.

I was a galley boy on the cargo Good Hope Castle (1955). Did this version featured in the news articles come in to being after the old version was scraped?

    Thanks in advance, Rodney

    ER BOY.
Does this mean Engine Room Boy.
Never sailed with one just Galley Boy,
Pantry Boy,Catering Boy and a few "Boy"
    ratings on the liners.

Yes Dave, and if you were any 'Boy' on a UCL ship you made sure there was a bulkhead between you and many others. Just for safety you understand.

The ER boy could easily be identified when they were emptying buckets of steam over the weather side. while the deck boy(Peggie)would be emptying the slops on the lee side.
