Thank you all for your replies.

Initially I also thought it should be two words and kept finding hotels!!!!

I did undertake a search of the NA and managed to get a copy of his ID card (with photo!) which does state vessel number 139107 (Huntscastle) and him joining / leaving it on the 20th Dec 1919. The ID card shows his rating as 'Head Waiter' plus showed that he also sailed on the Garth Castle 1918/1919 and the Gloucester Castle 1921.

    Again many thanks.

B&C did manage St Line, I was serving on Rothesay castle normally, but having had leave and waiting for Rothsay, I did a coastal voyage on St Essylt.
They seemed nice comfortable ships, with very streamlined funnels. Looked more like a yacht.

Union Castle didn't own any Saint Ships, but parent British & Commonwealth did manage the crew lists.
I was UC staff (Lecky) and did a coastal relief on St Essylt.

UCL, then B&C has a long and interesting history well worth reading.

Like many others began with one purpose, mail delivery, then amalgamated with others and diversified.
UCL, B&C, Safmarine, Clan Line and a few others along the way.

A good book on this is
    'Every Thursday at 4 O'Clock'

Wiki in error again Safmarine was not owned or part of UCL.
Clan Line in 1950 owned 50 percent of Safmarine, and Clan recommended Bomber Harris for the job of Chairman of Safmarine.
Over the years Clan then B&C held shares in
Safmarine and in the. eighties their shareholding was reduced to 24per cent.
C.I shipping and Safmarine formed Cl Safmarine Shipping which in turn became Pelmore Shipping before morphing into London Ship Managers.
