Lewis, was she a Lithgow built ship.
My first trip on the SA VAAl, started at midday Friday was cast off heading for the Cape, first night was uneventful.
Saturday morning, I was given the task of repairing electrical shave outlets in the workshop in the steering flat.
Well she was moving about, so was my stomach, eventually had t see huey.
Got the afternoon off, laid down, eventually went to sleep.
Saturday night Captains cocktail party, feeling a lot better.

Rest was history, as they say.

Not sure Vic , I do remember she was P type Hawthorn & Leslie Doxford. She was lovely ship and certainly one of the best in the ED/Ocean fleet.
Had my 21st Birthday on her in Philadelphia. Had a load of nurses came down for a party. The girls certainly looked after birthday boy, I could hardly walk for a week lol.

    Hi Brian.
So reminiscent of a few ships I sailed on, great story.

I only 45 years for me, and I thought it was over before it started. My train was late arriving in Southampton and I arrived at the quayside to find Oronsay being pulled of by tugs!!! Fortunately only as far as the dry dock but I didn't know that until a bit later.

I was an EDH on MV Automedon in the winter of 1970. A fine ship. As a retirement ‘present’, I commissioned a professional ship-modeller (Tony Fancy) to make her for me. I forget the scale now, but had to sell it for a ‘song’ when I moved from a house to a flat.

Only did one trip with the Blue Funnel 'Myrmidon' 1953.
But the names of their ships were magic. when I watch

We all get those Joseph, you have a memory spring in your mind, unless you get it down quick , and you read it later, there s lots you meant to say, and its gone. I have just had relatives down, and they asked me about my time in the MN, i told them of stories (not all one of them was female ), but in the end you get the look of disbelieve , at that point just order another drink and stay scum, kt

I once had to cut a guys hair in Singapore airport, it was just touching his collar and was considered too long, no chewing gum or porn mags (even Playboy was porn to them).
