    Update,
Oakley, or Annie as he was known was skipper on the Windsor until April 1962.

My correction Smythe, or Granny as he was known was skipper on the Pretoria when I was on her in 1962.

Patey was skipper on the Windsor after Oakley.

Alvis was head chef on Windsor maiden, followed by Ray Meadows then Bill Leigh.

    Pitt was Radio officer.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Vernon, there is something drastically wrong with those times and skippers for the Windsor.

My discharge book, which I checked last night shows Oakley as skipper from 1961 to 1963, then Patey.
Vernon, I joined here in Jan 61 and Oakley was skipper then.

Mayhew as commodore may well have taken her for maiden voyage, but Oakley was there in 1961, and she did her maiden voyage late 1960.

Oakley from October 60 is correct I believe, but Patey was not skipper before 1963.

So I have big question marks about the register.

Confusion maybe brought about by fact that Oakley, though skipper, did not become commodore until Oct 1962, and the info you have is all about some of the commodores

Looked into the register and it can be a bit confusing there as commodore dates show but not dates as skipper..

Dates as master are shown here: Windsor Castle (3)

The dates are the result of research undertaken by Alan Mallett who then gave his permission for them to be published on the web site.

The dates as commodore : Commodores are my own research.

There may be some inaccuracies but most things are verifiable by consulting the crew lists : Crew Lists

    John
As I had lost my Discharge Book along with other stuff as well (Like my RAF Book ) I had forrgotten what was actually in them besides the Ships dates Port where started and the VG or other!
Did not remember if they had the Masters name in them,i must look at my Uncles Book ,and see what other info they contained! I still have one of his Books, think he had three ,one his Wife has,one his Son in the UK has.
Wish I had so many LOL!
    cHEERS

However the Paper Copies I obtained Years ago does not have the Captains ,but the Crew Lists I also obtained from Canada has a lot of info, with all the Crew of each Ship,Logs, salaries etc and a lot more they really are interesting .
Then I have the Voyage Record Cards as well of the Ships I was on,all makes for some good memorabilia!

Cost a bit but to me well worth it ,a have not counted the number of copies (Pages that is) but there are many of that I can tell you. Through al these Pages of Paperwork ,that is how I know which Captains were on at the time, plus many other Crew! Cheers

Reference info. Obtained from Discharge Book prior to 1970 as stated in book was signature of master. In the following book getting all modern was the signature of master or authorised person , which to me means he could authorise the second mate to sign the book. Most masters and mates had name stamps made of their signature to facilitate the signing of a lot of paperwork. No doubt some are going to say that was illegal. Anyhow it was done, I still have my signature. Stamp so any I.O.U. “S I signed may be now null and void. I always have a blank spot regarding such legalities when it comes to passenger ships and all the gold Braid wandering around, who was considered the master when it came to pay off day, the bloke in command of the ship, or the staff captain a spurious title if ever there was, in charge as far as I can see in charge of all hands and the cook. Shows we all have limited knowledge. Cheers JWS

Looking at my old discharge books I have three of them some of them certainly had a stamp of the Masters signature but when I was with Sealink you signed a set of articles in the office that covered all the ships originally and then you signed ship by ship and you were signed on and off by the radio officer
    Rob Page R855150 - British & Commonwealth Shipping ( 1965 - 1973 ) Gulf Oil -( 1973 - 1975 ) Sealink ( 1975 - 1986 )

Rob was on one Liberian flag ship where the sparky was the treasurer. Used to square us up at the end of every month in cash. Used to be up the road in either Halifax or Montreal to put in the Bank of Canada. That’s where I got quite friendly with American Express, bought my first car in the UK with such, even though I didn’t drive, had to keep the missus happy after my long sojourns away. 1967 was the time, when the British MN was starting to decline, and which most didnt notice till much later. Carnival. Time in the Latin American countries always dwell on Rio , what I saw of the Carnival in Bermuda and Port of Spain Trinidad , would take some beating , our Irish paymaster Sparky entered a calypso song and took part in the Bermuda one, he didn’t win but we all got sore heads from the rum. What a wonderful atmosphere, the same with Port of Spain. Never seen Old Oak Rum since then. That Sydney mess if happen to see on tv find I am counting the Adams Apples, think it is a disgrace. But there you are, another mans poison..... JwS.
