Brilliant, I was at the Vindi about the same time as you, it brought back memories long forgotten within me. Cheers sailor.

I was at the Vindi in 1960, I really enjoyed the experience, I was made up to senior steward and put in charge of a billet full of scousers, now that was an experience I will not forget. When they moved most of them onto the ship and I got a new influx of trainees, life got a lot easier. I always tried to be fair and never bullied anyone, unlike one two of the others, who let the extra power go to their heads, so they left me alone on the train home, but one or two of the bullies got a good duffing up, I am afraid. Life at the Vindi was certainly interesting to say the least. Life at sea afterwards was a much more laid back affair compared.

Often the Vindi come sup on site for various reasons.
All of us who served there have different memories but all agree we had a good time there.
Looking back at conditions, the ship, the huts we lived in, the food, Codine Annie etc.

I wonder what the current generation would think of it?
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Today John, there would be a group of do gooders kicking up a fuss, cruelty to young boys, keeping them in cold conditions, not fed on the best of food etc etc. We grew up faster in those sea schools than they ever do today, mind you, most are still at school today when i clmbed the gangway on my first ship, a skinny 10 half stone, 16 year old !!, kt

When you think of that time, going to sea at 16 years of age, we still had to wait another 5 years before they considered us mature enough to vote !!!, by the time i was 21 i had been round the world, and then some. Now they are still at school and voting, strange old world, kt

Go back a few more years Keith and you could only vote if you were a member of the gentry. Probably this was changed when serfs who were their masters property were expected to vote in line with their masters wishes. Believe it was even after this that women got the vote. No doubt it’s all on the internet under Emily Pankhurst. Even in those days in serfdom the vote could be rigged. Cheers JS
