On July 31st, 1944, the British steel cargo ship SAMWAKE, built in 1944 and operated at the time of her loss by the Minestry of War Transport, on voyage from Normandy to the Thames, was torpedoed and sunk by German schnellboote S-79, S-91 and S-114.
