    Default Help Please

I have been approached to try and find some answers to an acquaintance's fathers service in the Royal Navy during the second world war. The man in questions full name was George Walter Wilder born 17/07/1923 (Fulham London) His official No. is JX 384 936, His Port Division was Portsmouth and his date of volunteering was 08/10/1942 and a date of discharge as 11/07/1946. Looking at his certificate of service There are 5 Questions.
    1) Under Medals, Clasps, &c., there is nothing does this mean that he was awarded no medals or that they were never claimed??
    2) Under Wounds received in action and hurt certificate; it has dated 08/10/1945 WS I 3 years What does that mean ??
3)The certificate shows that he entered as an ordinary seaman and was rated as able seaman on the 08/10/1943 but does not state which branch he was in??
    4) Payment of war gratuity and PWC Authorised . What does that mean ??
    5) Examinations passed and Notations of Qualifications. Dated 25/05/1945 "IR" What does that mean ??
I have posted this in the Royal Navy thread as it seems appropriate to me, If it should have been posted in the Help thread I apologise. Any help and information on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks J.W.

#1... The only thing I recognise John and is probably irrevelant to proper information that you require. Is that IR is today the equivilant to your GP of today which was unheard of during the war years I believe. GP as you know stands for General purpose and IR being the Australian equivilant of intergrated rating. This applies to the merchant service. JWS

    # 2 The man in question seemed to have spent his war years at various shore establishments in the U.K for all I know he was a pay clerk ? One of those stone frigates was HMS Boscawen which was the headquarters of Combined operations in world war 2 he was then seconded to a ship there which to me could mean anything.

Payment of war gratuity and PWC Authorised
    (PWC Post War Clothing (1939-45))
Read this it may help ?
London Gazette - War Gratuities - Officers

Under Wounds received in action and hurt certificate; it has dated 08/10/1945 WS I 3 years What does that mean ??
WSI War Service Increment paid for years of war service completed 1939-45

Under Medals, Clasps, &c., there is nothing does this mean that he was awarded no medals or that they were never claimed??

If no medals are shown then that means that he was not awarded any ?? But if you have all his details you can apply for his complete Record if that helps!
