Default Looking for information on my grandfather

Looking for information on my grandfather, John Bradley.

From what I know he worked on oil tankers as a cheif engineers up till the at most 69, before becoming an inspector for the government, working on such ships as the waverly and the queen Elisabeth 2

He lived in glasgow and I assume thats where he trained as well, but I could be horribly worng about that.

Thats all I know so far, I'll try to get more on this end, but any information would be appreciated.

    Fergus,

Wasn’t the Waverley the paddle. Ship. That ploughed up and down the. Clyde with sightseers or am I thinking of another vessel .? If so is a big difference between the two vessels. That’s not too long back and sure someone on the site may remember. Good luck. Have you no paperwork pertaining to him. JS

The Waverley was a tender for passenger ships calling at Greenock outward and homeward bound to North America.

I took a trip on the Waverley, in about 63, while staying with relatives in Helensburgh. It ran from Craigendoran (apologies if I spelled it wrong) to Dunoon and back. It was a paddle steamer and I remember that there was a viewing catwalk around the top of inside the engine room. I was fascinated by the sight and smell and it may have been that which fired my interest.

When mother took us on holiday to Rothesay, we either sailed on the paddle steamer "Waverley" or the turbine steamer "Queen Mary II". The turbine steamer let Cunard borrow her name in order to give their job number "534" in John Brown's shipyard a name.
We sailed on the "Queen Mary" in 1947 and on the "Waverley" in 1948. Mum didn't like the "Waverley" so up until 1950 we always sailed on "Queen Mary II.

    Regards from,
    Fouro.

The Clyde turbine steamer regained her original name "Queen Mary" in 1976, nine years after the Cunard liner "Queen Mary" was retired from service.
