    Default James Robertson McIntosh

hello, im researching my partners father. James Robertson McIntosh. He left Barnardos home in Kingston upon Thames in May 1940 and joined the Athel Templar, the family always said he was on it when it was torpedoed and sunk. Does anyone have any idea how I can get a crew list, I have so far only been able to obtain 18 names, when apparently they were approximately 60 on board. Many thanks.

Thank you so much Gulliver for your speedy reply. He never used to like talking to the family about his past, he was embarrassed he was illegitimate and put into Barnardos care, but he was lovely and it would be nice to piece together some threads. x

Already, taken a look as far as I can.

Any further information would assist greatly.

Estimated age / DOB / place / Marriage place / date, maiden name of spouse.

The above would assist much with records.

    Keith.

Regret all the questions but necessary,

Can we take it that he survived the war?

Sorry, Marina. I should have said , ' That's why your PARTNER is here'
Go to U-boat.net and there is quite a lot of info' on the sinking of the ATHELTEMPLAR and the rescue of her crew- the Master, 42 crew,18 gunners
    regards
    Brenda
Below from my Dad's 1st R/O's notes ( Horace Bell)
    14th September
0100. Depth charges were raking the ship. Evidently the U-boats were taking a hand again. At 0226 the Tanker on our starb'd beam took a torpedo in her engine room ( Athel Templar) . COPELAND was lucky again for the tin-fish ( torpedo) after narrowly missing a corvette, passed right underneath us amidships*, before reaching the tanker, which fortunately didn't explode, as she had a fuel-oil store.
    * this happened several times as COPELAND was shallow-drafted (a re-fitted Clyde Shipping Company Cattle boat )
