The previous small talk about bigamy brought to mind a Ch. Stwd. I sailed with He was married to a woman in Casablanca, went through a local marriage ceremony in Japan. He also had a wife in Cardiff. Those were the ones I knew about. JWS.

I have often wondered John just how many guys of our era had a second, or even third wife in another port?
    Happy daze John in Oz.

That was the ones he admitted to me John. The one in Casablanca was French and whilst we were there he complained no end about the french poodle she insisted had to share the bed. The Japanese one went through a Shinto or similarr marriage ceremony . Back in Cardidff the old man and me were invited up to his house, as we walked in the front door she his original wife walked out the back, so was hello pleased to meet you goodbye. Same bloke turned up at my house months later when the ship was in the Tyne. However he rolled up with the Gay pantry boy. Who walked in the front door squeeling I’ve brought you a bottle of baby Cham mr, Mate. I. Had one helluva time explaining to the wife that he had nothing to do with me and just had a fetish for wearing his mother’s clothes. JS

Reminds me of a film, Alec Guiness ? i think, where he was a ships skipper?, running from Gibraltar to somewhere in Africa, with a wife at either end, one wife loved the nightclubs dancing etc, the other wife loved her home life, cooking etc, which gave the skipper a nice balance to his life. complications arose when both wives wanted the life each other had. Thats memories from long ago, so maybe have most of it wrong, but someone may remember the film, kt

Keith think it was Gibraltar and Tangiers. Saw that film as a kid. Wonder how many youngsters that inspired to go to sea ? Should bring some of these old movies back as advertising material, wonder why the powers that be haven’t already done so. Might even get a few of the oldies dying their hair and applying the anti wrinkle cream and hoping to slip back in not physically that is. Cheers JWS
