    Question Trying to get information on a cousin John Maciver, born 1921, died on S.S.Baron Erskine

    Trying to get more information on a cousin John Maciver, who was born in 1921, and died on S.S.Baron Erskine by a torpedo U-boat 701, January 6, 1942, he was 21, and no survivors on the Erskine. Would love to know when he joined up? and was this the only boat he was on Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

    Thanks for this great information. His Mother was Annabelle, The Tower Hill is where the memorial of him and the crew are listed. So he was just a teenager when he signed up. So young.

    Would you or other family members be able to provide further information ?

    Date / month of birth 1921.

    Place of birth.

    Any other documentation with reference numbers to his service etc.

    Struggled with our Archives to located him - 3 others but, not your relative.

    If this is his discharge number, he must have signed up again, to have been a 3rd Engineer on the SS Baron Erskine that was torpedoed in January 6th, 1942 by UBoat 701.

    I cannot thank you all who have been so wonderful in providing all this information. My cousin I believed was born on the Isle Of Lewis, and then his parents moved to Glasgow when he was a youngster. His family used to live at 1a Lochganvich. All the MacIvers lived in Lochganvich.
