Re: Request for help - Richard Eric Thorn
40, Hi Helen, You are most welcome and thank you for your pm. Have to leave shorty, [hos app for my mum] will be home again around 7pm and will try then.
There was another chap SIMILAR name who had been a P.O.W. in Japan but didn't match up completely so didn't want to build up false hope. However will try and find him again. Did your grandfather have any other middle names that you recall? There are around 4 family trees on Ancestry with your grandfathers details all stating his dob as 1923/24. Hence why I had no doubt in posting what I did. Dates and spellings can and do deviate on genealogy sites but usually not too far out. We now know of course Richard was born in 1926 and shall allow for that. Delighted to hear your mum was pleased, that in essence is what it's all about

Re: Request for help - Richard Eric Thorn
Hello again Helen, finally found the other chap same name as your grandfather, different spelling.
THORNE, Richard E, Act/Stoker Petty Officer, D/KX 78141, Matabele, Zim17 January 1942, ship loss, MPK The other two Thorns were Army one in Poland the other Germany.
I'm terribly sorry Helen but I cannot find any data on Richard Eric being a POW in Italy.
