    Default Hello - seeking Genlloud

    Ahoy there, ladies & gentlemen,

I am seeking information about my godfather, Lionel W G Genlloud (born 1900), who was sunk by a German submarine during WW1. He may then have been RNR, and was certainly a probationary sub-lieutenant in 1926. Family tales suggest RMS Amazon (120715) may have been the vessel in which he was torpedoed, so am looking for Crew Lists for the trip from Liverpool in March 1918.

Any advice, and any recommended alternative lines of approach, would be very much appreciated.

This seems to be the only list I can find but he is not listed as it is from Voyage of 1915

Frederick - many thanks for that - I'll be careful.
He was always known as Lionel (or a nickname!) in the family and was certainly posted as LWG in the 1926 London Gazette. As HIS uncle Bill was a bit a of black sheep (reportedly - probably off-white by today's standards) it is quite possible that he was christened William Lionel George and later dropped the William to adopt Lionel. I'll check other records.
What I need is to find a source of Crew Lists as the name Genlloud is more than sufficient to locate him. Being sunk but a submarine in WW1 and leaving Royal Mail Steam Navigation buttons made Amazon worth researching, but your link seems to rule that out. I'll dig around a little more in that Greenwich archive.
    Many thanks for that pointer.

Sorry if you receive half this message twice - still getting the feel of the tiller!

Thank you Doc - that all correlates with what I know plus more (the medals/ribbons). He retired from the RNR as a Commander 9th July 1950. Liverpool is at least consistent with RMS Amazon, so I'll persue that for now. Many thanks for your effort and assistance. Hopefully my brother can pop in to Kew (if necessary) once we have located records of interest.
