Searching for John S Laidlaw
Hi there, nice to see this forum. My husband's long lost uncle John Scott Laidlaw (1927-1988) showed up an Ancestry.com search on the ship Pipiriki sailing from Avonmouth, England (Jun 28, 1947) to New York in July 03, 1947. The crew list shows him as being the 4th Officer, with 5 years of service at that point. His younger brother last saw him when he was 9 years of age. Would I be able to contact the National Archives from Canada to find out more about his career? And wondering if anyone here served with him, or has any information. He was married in Blackpool in 1951; he was working as a photographer at that point. Thank you for any help!

Might be useful to put on his major crewmates:
Master: Rees, Robert G (29 years service at sea)
Ch. Off: Andrews, Stanley W. (17 years " )
2nd Off: Bryant, John (13 years " )
3rd Off: Heron, Michael J (3.5 years " )
Others include: Leslie G. Whittington (1st radio), Leo P Sayers (2nd radio), James E. Gillett (Carpenter), Norman Murray (Boatswain), Andrew Ross (Lamptrimmer) etc.

Re: Searching for John S Laidlaw
At this point the only Laidlaw that I can see Born 1927 at the NA is the following but Initials are not correct
R622679 LAIDLAW D R 14/04/1927 GATESHEAD
Will look again later and see if I can locate him,but he may well still have been at Sea after 1972 in which case no records would be found!
Cheers

Thank you, Doc, for looking this up. My sense is he was no longer at sea after his marriage in 1951. Regards, Joyce
