Default Grandfather on empress of Scotland

Hi all I'm wondering if anyone here knew or served with my grandfather. His name was John Charles Cahoon,he was from Liverpool and I know he was on the empress of Scotland around late 1940 to early 1950(bit of a guess I'm afraid).I never got the chance to meet him as sadly he passed away in 1977.unfortunately I don't have alot of details about him and have never seen a photo of him.if anyone has any information or photographs I would be forever thankful, and if not thank you for taking time to read this, thank you x

    Hello Jenny
Welcome to the site and I hope you will enjoy what we have to offer!
You don't give a DOB for your Grandfather so I am guessing that this may just be him,as this person was from Liverpool! Born in 1924
If you applied for his Seamans Records that will give you quite a lot of Info on him, such as Ships etc!

This is a Link to his Seamans Pouch which wont have too much but his CRS10 will,i will get that link later!
    Thanks for joining
    Cheers

Added If still existing you should find his CRS10 Records within this Batch,

Cahill J to Cain R J | The National Archives

Best to get to Kew personally to search the Archives.

Hi Jenny, I checked crew lists on Ancestry but the surname Cahoon did not register seems its a misnomer for them! The nearest I got was Caine, keane etc sorry. Again any other member registered with FMP and able to search would be welcomed.

Colquahoon is pronounced Cahoon if that's any use.

Thank you Keith, did find the above, as I found it incredulous the alternative spellings Ancestry were offering instead, however that was the only one ......... but not in crew list. Will check out Braids suggestion also, thank you both

Sorry Jenny nothing found in crew lists for John C. Colquahoon.

John Charles Cahoon was aboard EMPRESS OF ASIA on 5.2.1942 when the ship was lost to enemy action. 10 days later Singapore fell to the Japanese advance and he was one of the survivors of the ship taken as a Prisoner of War and held at the infamous Changi Jail.

This file may also be worth looking at at Kew - BT 373/110

    Hi Jenny,

The seaman's pouch (BT 372) mentioned by Doc in his post #3 usually has an ID photo - usully but not always. It is the only place you will find a photo in the seaman's records apart from his own discharge book.
