    Default Nothing new today

No doubt we all have memories of days long past when daily the bread and milk were delivered.
We even had a guy with a large van who came once a week selling green grocery.

Most of that has now gone, replaced by the supermarkets even killing off many of the small corner shops.

But now delivering food has become a big industry once again,
The modern day house wife is time poor, Facebook and Latte mornings do take up so much time.
Supermarkets now find that as much as 15% of business here in Oz is done on line.

But today it was announced that our hardware stores, 'Bunnings' is also going into the home delivery business.
Order on line and it will be delivered within a day.

The world continues to change, but much of that change is not so new.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

It's not big here and the websites are clunky for those that offer it. I couldn't drive to Tescos for the cost of delivery off peak when Oliver in th UK.

I ordered a keyboard from Frys a big electronic retailer here it was delivered in about 3 or 4 hours!

The world continues to change, but much of that change is not so new.
In our village, there were two different milk men, two travelling shops selling everything, two butchers vans, two "pop" vans, a fishmonger van.
In addition we had a co-op store that sold everything from pigeon corn to beef, haberdashery, ironmongery, literally the works. One post office, one newsagent, one fish and chip shop and a home bakery.
Now the population has doubled there is nothing but one small general dealers and no roundsmen except milk.

I lived in Ockley, Surrey for a couple of years.

We had one church, one petrol station, a general village shop with a post office and FOUR pubs! Not sure what that said about the residents...

I think in those days Shaun the pubs were social meeting places as much as boozers, in the public bar the old boys playing dominoes or crib and for me and
my mates it was darts, in the saloon bare would be a more comfy atmosphere for family or couples and mostly trouble free, a far cry from todays pubs with all the
Disco stuff, the only local pub I go to nowadays is 500 years old and is still a real family pub with great food, they do a roaring trade and I've never seen trouble there yet,
