    I agree with that John
I never go on an organised tour from the ship. too expensive and time limited and rushed about.
If it a big island then do a deal with a local taxi driver he will take you to the places he knows best and let you stay as long as you want.

Or make friends with a local and keep in touch when you get home and they wait for you next time you go. and have great parties.
I have many friends in the South Pacific and they give us a great time, very generous people, and always have parties there.
We always take presents out with us from home for them.
We have a lot of friends now in Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora , Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. Like home from home.
The Pacific Islands are the only place to go to now in this mad world.

One other creature very common in the islands is the two headed, six legged dog. They were everywhere and I asked one of the locals what kind were they. He said they are known as "Rooting' dogs.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

John. if you would like to log in to my old colleague's write up about PNG, Don Granter, founder of our Oldies group about 25 years ago and now my mate who was 17 years manager for Papua New Guinea which covered the Solomon Islands during the time I was manager for Fiji and neighbouring island groups. Photos too. Here's the link spotlight and scroll down. There is also more on careers
