Re: Only a boy
We all, just like Brian and Des, have talents but sometimes do not realize for years. But once discovered use it to the full extent, it is yours and yours alone.

Re: Only a boy
John I wonder how many of us have great talents that are forever hidden maybe due to the fact that we never had the chance to explore them for instance maybe at school as young children we were not fortunate enough to have that teacher who was always looking out for talent where ever it lay, by the way Des my user name as I know you will reconize I can't believe that I was a young seaman in her all those years ago I can't explain it but there was a feeling an atmosphere a wonderful one I might add and I always found it sitting out on deck in the early hours of the morning alongside in some Kiwi port just before the dockers started work some sort of calmness I can't put my finger on it but then again anywhere I travelled to that I loved they all had something that made me not want to sail away ( hold up I'm going off on one ) regards to all hands before I break down in tears of regret for not staying that little bit longer Dave .

Re: Only a boy
aaaaaH! the days of Yore!, I found myself in demand for colouring black and white photographs, shows how old I am, since retiring at the age of 73, some years ago now, I now often wonder how I found time to work I seem to be so busy, no time to get bored, however the days are full so that is good, varying from looking at houses with a young couple, writing, this site (god bless it) and some DIY, recently installed some dado rail and skirting board, built up from various sections, (no standard stuff for my wife!) mind you the hardest part of that job was getting back up from my knees. Can't equal Kong although having traversed the world and visited over 90 countries both in sea and shore careers, I was never able to give an American lady one!

I think at some time we have al been there. Now all I can do, as is the case with many of us, is to sit on the dock of a bay watching the ships sail away or come in, go on a cruise and sit at the stern watching the ships wake and remeniss. But the memories linger and nothing can take them away, we were there at a great time in the history of shipping and proud of it.
