We never had table cloths, but sheets wetted down on the messroom table, cook unable to get the normal meals, boiled eggs and beans etc etc, but would we all like to experience it again , you bet, kt

Re: Rough weather Norh Sea
Never did a trip through the rough Seas on a smaller Vessel, however even on the old Castle Liners through rough Seas through the North Atlantic ,there were times that it could become rather uncomfortable to say the least.
Especially when trying to serve those Hungry but sae Sick Bloods ,with things being thrown around at times,it was sometimes really crazy, dont know why on such occasions the Dining Rooms were not closed. Thats Life!
But it was fun LOL

Across the great Australian Bight on the 'Paparoa' all 10,008 tons of her.
Three days on cold meat and salad, it was so rough we could not keep pots on the stove.
All drinks from cups from fear glass would shatter.
No one allowed on deck, but we survived and looking back it was most likely good fun.
Happy daze John in Oz.

On the BEECHFIELD in 1952, the Cook was killed in the Galley, she took a big roll and the chip pan shot off the coal burning stove all over the Cook and burst into flames , He died in the scupper screaming his last.2nd Engineer threw a bucket of water on him but he had gone. we tied his body to the hatch until we got to Liverpool two days later. His head moving backwards and forwars as she rolled. a gruesome sight.
