Hi Mike ... Fantastic photos !! I was there at the end of 2017 and the whole of the wharf area has changed so much since I was there on the Port Townsville in 1963 and the Caltex Kurnell in 1973 ... I went to the Maritime Museum when there in 2017 and discovered that the place was screaming out for at least photos like these because there isn't one bit of memorabilia of the amount of foreign flagged ships that called into Auckland back-in-the-day , much the same in Wellington Maritime Museum not a bean , sad really.
As for naming the ships I may have to get back to you on that one.

Have to agree there, was there last new years eve and the Martine museum could do with a lot more memorabilia as could Wellintog.
Though both are good they do lack so much and could well be improved by person who understand the sea.

I always found some time to do a bit of fishing and remember catching Kowahai from the end of Queens and Princes wharf's in the fifties,
I gave the fish to the Wharfes and once got invited to a party for my troubles. I saw a TV program about Auckland a couple of years ago
and was gobsmacked to see all the buildings on the old wharf's, seems I'm still living in the past, how sad is that cheers

#13. John I must be a sad Bastward as I live in the past. To cheer myself now and then, Snowbow DVD The Great Liners (Episode 22) "Ships To New Zealand" (Part5) almost brings a tear to the eye.

Hi Bill yes those DVD's are brilliant, I love watching them the one that stood out for me was the FSNCo's Northhumberland going through the canal
that was a cracker, when you started out was you told to save the cabbage etc for the Mules at Panama . Des Cox did us a service making those
DVD's, I've recently moved home and my DVD's are still in boxes in the garage but when the place is finally organised, I'll sit down and enjoy them again, cheers

I too have a few of those Snowbow DVD's and as said thet are really good viewing.
The ones i like to watch of course are the ones on the old Union Castle Line,
However i must get a few more on other lines as well.

It's each to their own Doc, if you like docks there's the Great Ports section or the ports around the world
with just about all the company's and ships you know, I had a look at my DVDs today and there's 22
there, I haven't seen watched for years so when I watch them again it will almost be like the first time,
they are all a wonderful reminder of what a great maritime nation we were, not to mention our search for
our lost youth, like Bill says it almost brings a tear to your eye, cheers
