    Default Ivory and Hippo Hides

    Hi Cappy,
Your comment about what has been carried by the MN in the past prompted me to read through some of the cargoes I was associated with during my time at sea (I kept quite extensive notes in those days), and I came across a part cargo we loaded in Mombassa in May 1959 for transport to Singapore and eventually Japan. The entry reads:- Loaded Scrap Iron, Soda, Jute, Cotton, and ...... get this .....Ivory and Hippo Hides!! Not really the good old days were they.

Every now and then, an idea surfaces about how to save elephants etc from this rampant poaching.

One idea that resurfaced recently is the mysterious pink-tusked elephant. The people who suggest staining an elephant's tusks pink are trying to figure out a way to make ivory less valuable to poachers.

Chris, the world was a very different place then and trade in such items was common place.
Thankfully man has changed his ways on may such events and hopefully many more, such as whaling by Japan, to come.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

A total world ban on domestic ivory trade is a step in the right direction.

Yes John, that is your problem now most likely shrunk after all your hospital visits.

As to lines, well as when we were at school you will most likely have to do at least 100 before you will be allowed to reply again.

JP the only time that i too get that is when i am replying to a Post and the Site is very busy, this could possibly be the Prob. ?? But not certain
I am sure things will sort themselves out!
    Cheers

T o add to the Topic of Elephants it is somewhat Barbaric to say the least, when Poachers just Kill for Money, the poor Animal is just left there after to die in terrible agony,i wish that these sorts would when they are caught get the same treatment ,cut off their Ears or something similar and let them just lie and Bleed to death.

I have no qualms about that and i am by nature a very peaceful Chap!
    But when riled! Grrrrr!
