My friend Tim who does ships magnetic compass adjustments is convinced the magnetic north has shifted significantly over the past few years.

Summer here in Melbourne and the latest it gets dark is about 2130 hours on December 21st, longest day.
But this year I have noticed it is still light at 2115 hours at the end of January. In past years it would be dark by then.

As I watch TV I can see from a side window the setting sun, but have noticed this year that it sets a bit to one side of the window, about 5 degrees over?

Could this be from the heat wave we have experienced this year or something else?
